From John Barata

God lives in all of us and he can certainly be seen in this group of pilgrims from Holy Cross. I have the great pleasure of leading this journey with the incredible support of Greg and Jim.

Our "Group" is full of amazing people with the Holy Spirit. From the first minute we left the parking lot for Virginia at 4:30 AM we have experienced God's love and care. We navigated across 10 states safely and with no complaining. We enjoyed the BEAUTY of the Creator in every hillside, mountain top, lake,...

From Jim and Mary's crew

Just checking in with a with a quick update.
We had a great trip to Roanoke yesterday.

We have all settled in at the ASP center in Jonesville and

Why Appalachia?

ASP center where they will be staying
ASP center where they will be staying

In the Central Appalachian region...

  • Poverty is more than double the national average
  • One in four lives below the poverty level-105,000 children, 195,000 adults, and 35,000 elderly
  • 62,500 homes are substandard
  • 19,000 homes lack adequate kitchens
  • 21,000 homes lack complete plumbing
  • Nearly half of the families have annual household incomes below $20,000
The result is that jobs are few and far between. For many of these families, their modest houses-handed down fro...
